Senate to Hold Hearings in Lull Before 2021 Session
Jackson, Miss. (Y'all Politics) - The Mississippi Legislature has left the building after sine die in what was the longest session in Mississippi history. However, work is still happening among members. Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann is keeping senators busy with hearings scheduled throughout the month of October. He says he hopes that these hearings will result in legislation sooner than usual. Hosemann indicated on the Gallo Show Monday morning that he hopes to see legislation from members before the end of the year. PRESS RELEASE: Legislature Reappropriates More Than $60M in Coronavirus Relief Funds
Jackson, Miss. - The Mississippi Legislature concluded its 2020 business by reappropriating more than $60 million from the Coronavirus Relief Funds allocated to the State from the federal government. Adjournment sine die, which officially ends the Session, is Saturday, October 10, 2020. New programs made possible by the reappropriations include: $13 million in a grant program for general agriculture and poultry farming losses; $10 million for veterans’ facilities; $20 million in a grant program for residential and commercial rental assistance; $10 million in a grant program for the construction of hospital ICU beds and negative pressure rooms; and $10 million to upgrade emergency wireless communication across the State. “COVID has taken a significant toll on our families, businesses, and communities. Lt. Governor Joins PSC to Honor Atmos Energy
Jackson, Miss. (WLBT) - Atmos Energy is named a Mississippi Champion for the second year in a row. The Mississippi Public Service Commission, Speaker of the House, Philip Gunn and Lieutenant Governor, Delbert Hosemann present the company with the recognition on the steps of the State Capitol Tuesday. Lawmakers Approve New MEMA Warehouse
Jackson, Miss. (WAPT) - The Mississippi Legislature has finished its session by making final appropriations that will help the state's response to the coronavirus. Among the last measures passed was House Bill 1808. The measure allows the purchase of a warehouse for the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. The 103,000 square foot warehouse on Mendell Davis Drive in south Jackson cost the state just under $2.4 million. MEMA Executive Director Greg Michel says that was below the asking price, and it also came with a significant parcel of land that will be utilized in the future as a regional logisitical re-supply site for disaster response that has the capacity for military aircrafts to land.
