On Tuesday, the Mississippi Highway Patrol held their own ceremony honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice: their fallen officer memorial ceremony. It honors the lives of highway patrolmen who died in the line of duty. Jackson, Miss. (WLBT) - Hinds County leaders say they’d like to have the downtown jail transferred to the city of Jackson by the end of summer. However, it’s likely too late to get state funding for any renovations for it until next year. The state proposed setting aside approximately $800,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to help repair the facility during the 2022 legislative session. However, no funds were appropriated because the jail’s ownership was still in limbo. Lt. Gov. (Clarion Ledger) - Lawmakers and law enforcement came together for a press conference at the Mississippi State Capitol on Wednesday to announce new initiatives in the Jackson area as crime and violence have been at the forefront of people's minds in recent days. (WJTV) - On Monday, an exposed drafted opinion written by conservative Justice Samuel Alito alleged that majority Supreme Court justices are likely to ban abortions eliminating the historic 1973 Roe v Wade ruling that gave women the choice of abortion. “I’ve been a lawyer 57 years. I’ve never seen this happen which makes me very suspicious of what’s going on,” said Governor Haley Barbour. Mississippi is one of 23 states who wants to put an end to abortion. Biloxi Miss. (WXXV) - Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann met with several Coast officials to discuss the 2022 legislative session. Hosemann says the most important topic discussed at the briefing was the American Rescue Plan Act. The state dedicated $750 million in ARPA funds to water and sewer infrastructure for cities, counties, and rural water associations. Cities and counties which received more than $1 million from the federal government can receive a 1 to 1 matching grant of state ARPA funds for water and sewer infrastructure.
