Jackson, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi’s new lieutenant governor, Republican Delbert Hosemann, said immediately after his inauguration Thursday that he wants to work with all lawmakers to improve education, enact pay raises for state employees and address problems in a state’s prison system that has been rocked by deadly violence. “We’re all in this together,” Hosemann told lawmakers and other officials in a crowded House chamber at the state Capitol. Lt. Governor-Elect Visits Parchman
Jackson, Miss. (WJTV) - Lt. Governor-elect Delbert Hosemann made a surprise visit to the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman on Sunday. He assessed the situation at the prison. “I went in Unit 29, looked at the destruction that occurred there and there was literally still blood on the walls there. It was horrific,” said Hosemann. “The first thing we have to do is, of course, protect the guards and the inmates to make sure that they’re safe and secure.” Hosemann said the prison situation is now a top priority. Delbert Hosemann tours storm damage in Guntown
Guntown, Miss. (Daily Journal) - Lt. Gov.-elect Delbert Hosemann toured a storm-battered section of Northeast Mississippi on Wednesday to survey damaged homes and speak with residents in the area. Hosemann told the Daily Journal after his visit to Guntown that he typically has traveled to storm-damaged areas and wants to speak with the homeowners in the area and listen to their concerns. He even sat down with one homeowner to just ask “How’s it going?” “People just want to know you care about them,” Hosemann said.
