19 Public School Administrators Named to Lt. Gov. Advisory Council
Jackson, Miss. (Y'all Politics) - Last year, Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann vowed to seek input from Mississippi’s public educators when considering legislation impacting public schools. To help him fulfill the promise, Hosemann named 19 public school leaders from across the State to an Administrator Advisory Council today. “For Mississippi to succeed, our public schools must succeed,” said Hosemann, who plans to name a separate advisory council of teachers in early February. “This requires us to listen to educators and address their needs. Miss. Legislature: First Bills Include Teacher Pay Raise
Jackson, Miss. (Clarion Ledger) - The first bills of the 2020 Mississippi legislative session have been filed and they include a Senate measure that would increase teacher salaries by $1,000. Other Senate bills posted this week include a wildlife trafficking ban, authorization for a second state song, a requirement universities display the state flag or have their funding pulled, and a reduction of the size of the Legislature starting in 2024. Lt. Gov. Tours Storm Damage in North Mississippi
DeSoto County, Miss. (Fox 13 Memphis) - Mississippi Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann spent Monday morning looking at the damage left behind from Saturday’s storms. That storm system dropped two tornadoes in North Mississippi, an EF-1 and an EF-2, according to the National Weather Service. Hosemann estimated over 200 homes in DeSoto County were affected by the storms. Hosemann first stopped at Larry Woods’ house. FOX13 first met Woods on Saturday, minutes after the tornado ripped the roof off his house and knocked down several tree’s. On Monday, Woods got a visit from the Lt.Governor. Lt. Governor Announces Committee Chairs, Vice Chairs in Senate
Jackson, Miss. (Clarion Ledger) - Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann announced committee assignments for the Mississippi Senate Friday morning. The Senate has almost as many committees (42) as it does senators (52), and some committees are more powerful than others. While Republicans took almost all of what's considered the top jobs, Hosemann did appoint Democrats to some chairmanships. Sen. Briggs Hopson, R-Vicksburg, will chair the Appropriations Committee. Sen. Josh Harkins, R-Flowood, takes over the Finance Committee from Sen. Joey Fillingane, R-Sumrall, who will chair the Highways and Transportation Committee.
