Lt. Governor Updates Pine Belt Leaders on Federal Funding
Hattiesburg, Miss. (WDAM) - Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann visited Pine Belt leaders Wednesday and share updates from the legislature about incoming federal funding. Hosemann attended the ribbon-cutting for Pearl River Community College’s new medical simulation lab in Forrest County. In a meeting with local leaders, he answered questions and shared a few of the dollar amounts communities can expect from the $1.8 billion of unallocated funds that will be officially appropriated soon. Lamar County will be getting $12.8 million. Forrest County will be getting $14.53 million. The city of Hattiesburg can expect $13.61 million. PRCC Cuts Ribbon on Allied Health Lab Funded by Legislature
Hattiesburg, Miss. (Pine Belt News) - For many students in the health sciences field at Pearl River Community College, their first time dealing with patients and equipment would most likely be in a laboratory or clinical setting. Now, however, those students have a chance to get hands-on experience – and a whole new level of understanding – before entering that scenario, thanks to the new Allied Health Simulation Lab in the Allied Health Building at the Hattiesburg PRCC campus. Listening Tour Begins for Lt. Governor Hosemann
Pascagoula (WXXV) - Mississippi’s number two politician is here on the Coast this week meeting with local leaders in the three coastal counties with a look ahead to next year’s legislative session and what types of local projects might be on the horizon. Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann kicked off his two-day listening tour of the Coast, meeting with Jackson County officials and answering their questions on various topics. Miss. Doubles Pre-K Investment Under Lt. Governor Leadership
Jackson, Miss. (Mississippi Today) - Mississippi’s state-funded pre-kindergarten program has again received high marks in a national report that measures the quality of state-funded education for 3- and 4-year-olds nationally. The National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER) identified Mississippi as one of only six states in the nation whose pre-K program meets all 10 quality standards for early childhood education. But despite the program’s high quality, access remains an issue: It currently only serves 8% of 4-year-olds in the state. Mississippi’s state-funded pre-K is also referred to as Early Learning Collaborative programs, which are partnerships among school districts, Head Start agencies, childcare centers and nonprofit groups. Lt. Gov. Hosemann Discusses Plans to Spend Federal Relief Funds
Jackson, Miss. (WJTV) - On Thursday, Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann discussed how the state is planning to spend money granted to them from the recently passed "American Rescue Plan." The state received $1.8 billion through the plan. Under the relief guidelines, localities can use the money to provide assistance to households, small businesses and nonprofits. Premium pay for essential workers is also available. Hosemann spoke about the education and employment opportunities. "So, what we want to do by having an educated population that has the correct technical training.
