Jackson, Miss. (WJTV) – On Thursday, Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann discussed how the state is planning to spend money granted to them from the recently passed “American Rescue Plan.”

The state received $1.8 billion through the plan. Under the relief guidelines, localities can use the money to provide assistance to households, small businesses and nonprofits.

Premium pay for essential workers is also available. Hosemann spoke about the education and employment opportunities.

“So, what we want to do by having an educated population that has the correct technical training. That has been educated in our public school system or other school system, then is ready to move into the labor force and become part of the labor participation rate,” Hosemann said.

While Congress is currently discussing the president’s $2 trillion infrastructure bill, necessary investments in water, sewer or broadband infrastructure are also permitted from the COVID-19 plan.
